Do you like a laid-back, resort-style vacation in an upscale community? Then why not visit Greater Westhampton, the playground for the rich and famous since the 1870s. Westhampton is located on Eastern Long Island, New York and has often be referred to as "the first Hampton." It is here where most of the tourists who visit the Hamptons, congregate.

Westhampton has some of the finest beaches, shops, restaurants and night clubs on Long Island. It is here that many celebrities choose to vacation in the summer months. The Westhampton Beach is the central hub-bub of town with its souvenir shops, bathing apparel and surfing stores. Each year, more people flock to vacation in Westhampton, and many of them decide to take up residence in this charming community.

There are several fine hotels located in Westhampton, The Hamptons, New York. People began spending summers on Westhampton Beach in the late 1800s and before long, summer homes and hotels were springing up all over the community. One of the first hotels in Westhampton was the Howell House, which was built in 1868. The Howell House still offers fine accommodatins for visitors as it did 150 years ago. Other fine hotels in the are are The Oneck House and the Ketchaboneck House.

Because many people who live in Westhampton live there all year round, there are several schools within the community, offering the finest education in the country. Activities abound for the younger people in the area and the quality of life in this village is simply superb.

Some of the things you will want to visit while vacationing in Westhampton is a tour through the scenic route which takes you down Dune Road east to Hampton bays. Here you will see some of the most extravagant mansions in the area.

The Village Green and Gazebo is the cultural center of town that offers concert series in the summers, cultural events, holiday events and many different children's programs.

Wessthampton has some of the finest restaurants in all of the Hamptons. Here you can get virtually whatever type of food you desire, although the seafood throughout the Hamptons, Long Island, is exceptional and extremely fresh.

Shopping along Main Street you will find a number of trendy, upscale shops that have literally something for everyone. From fine beachwear, clothing, jewelry and sophisticated gifts, there is nothing nicer than spending the day shopping Main Street at Westhampton.

One thing you will not want to miss while vacationing in Westhampton is the Westhampton Historical Museum. The museum is located in a 19th century home and has a variety of different exhibits relating to the history of The Hamptons, including some vintage photos of the Westhampton Beach. Looking at these photographs when compared with today's beach, it is difficult to imagine that it is the same place.

Another wonderful outing can be spent at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. Anyone who loves to hike in a scenic environment can take one of the seven mile trails through some of the most beautiful woods in New York State and see some of the wildlife living in these woods.

The Hamptons are an exclusive playground for the rich and famous. But every year, tourists from every walk of life descend on this quaint community. Nothing can be better that to take a holiday in Westhampton, The Hamptons, New York.
