Visiting The Atlanta Botanical Gardens
The Atlanta Botanical Gardens are something everyone needs to see. The beauty that surrounds you as you walk in the doors is beautiful. You will see over thirty acres of woodlands and gardens with the fantastic orchids blooming on display. They offer a children's garden along with endangered and rare desert and tropical rain forest plants. The water features are just beautiful to sit and loose yourself in the sounds of the flowing falls. They have cafes and little gift shops throughout the gardens. This is one of the best places to visit in Atlanta. You will want to allow an entire day to make it through the entire thirty some acres.
When you visit the gardens, you wan to make sure to see the display house, the higher elevation house and the famous orchid hall. The desert and tropical rotunda are especially beautiful all year round as well. You may want to take the kids to the animal center and the orangerie house. As you enter the lobby, you can see many different exhibits and a map leading you to all the areas at the Botanical Gardens. The array of colors and the fragrances that circle around inside the building is a smell you will never smell anywhere else.
The amphibian life inside the gardens has grown over the years and now has over one hundred amphibians on display throughout the gardens. They have frogs from many different areas of the world including South and Central America. There are rare species as well as some that might be known to children and adults. While you are there, you might consider doing a little bird watching. You might see a Hawk, Blue Jay, Towhee, Mourning Dove, Chickadee and a Mockingbird. You will just have to sit and watch as these birds fly around the gardens.
The children and adults will enjoy the other critters inhabiting the gardens such as the butterflies, honeybees, Geckos, wood turtles, quail, finches and snapping turtles. These are found throughout the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and amuse people for hours as they sit and watch the creatures roam the gardens in search of food. The gardens also have certain times of the year when they have concerts by popular musician on the lawns of the garden. These are normally held at night after a day of taking in the gardens.
The great thing about the gardens is that they offer classes for schoolchildren, which allows them to learn about plants, flowers and the amphibians found in the gardens. They have great activities for kids as well as hosting school tours so that children see first hand how important the environment is to all of us. Visit that little gift shops, sit for a while, and watch the birds fly overhead. They have many areas to eat a snack or a lunch while you are visiting the gardens. After a day at the gardens, you might even want to find out how to get involved with the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
