Summer Travel

Summer is the time for travel and summer travel is such fun. You can all pile in the car and ride down to the coast to take a swim or your summer travel might be a longer trip by car, maybe across country just to see the sights. Maybe your summer travel will find you camping in the mountains. Maybe your summer travel will take you to a lake in the woods. where you can stay in a cabin, sing songs, hear hooty owls and fish and swim. Summer travel can be so many things and take you to so many places.

When the kids are out of school for the summer and mom and dad have a couple of weeks off from work, it is time for summer travel. Summer travel begins with planning. Sometime during the year a series of family meetings take place to help the family decide on what type of summer travel to take and then where to go. Once the family has all agreed on the summer travel, it is time to plan the actual trip. Much thought needs to go into the route to take as many interesting and educational sites most likely lie between home and the final destination. Summer travel can be fun and educational. The kids will profit greatly from seeing the world's largest ball of twine in person and no one should pass up the opportunity to visit the site of the world's largest Teflon frying pan.

Summer travel can also take you to and through some of your country's most spectacular natural areas and summer travel can take you past many historical sites that will help give your children a real sense of their country's history. But summer travel isn't just about education. Summer travel is about fun too. The kids will be glad if you can route your summer travel past a major theme park or two. This type of activity can be expensive, but it will produce lasting memories of family fun. It may make you sick to be spun upside down fifty feet of the ground at high speeds, but the kids sure seem to enjoy it. And who would want to miss out on all that great food? Theme parks know more ways to fry sugary treats than anyone else so don't miss out on that.

In contrast to the manufactured fun of an amusement park, there is the pure fun of a simpler summer travel. Renting a cabin on a remote lake with nothing modern around to distract you and your family from walks in the woods along streams and discovering little waterfalls or a deep pool or swimming all day in the pristine waters of the great mountain lake and then reading books aloud at night in front of the wood burning stove to your sleepy kids as they snuggle up on cots. This kind of summer travel really creates long lasting warm memories for everyone in the family.
