The Hamptons. The ultimate holiday for those who want to get away to this Long Island, New York cluster of upper-crust towns. The Hamptons drips of class, money and finery. Those who truly want an upscale vacation should visit this charming and historical part of New York where celebrities mingle with the well-to-do and are spotted in all of the best shops, restaurants and beaches. Going to the Hamptons for a weekend or a small vacation says "you've made it."

There are many different towns encompassing the Hamptons community. For those who enjoy the outdoors, hiking or boating, the place to go is Sag Harbor.

Sag Harbor was once a whaling village. Today this harbor town has charming restaurants and shops all boasting of historical charm. Hollywood celebrities are often seen in Sag Harbor, particularly at Canio's Books which features local author readings. Canio's Books is located in the heart of Sag Harbor, amid charming historical houses.

There is much to do in Sag Harbor and plenty of charming accommodations. From the exclusive American Hotel to several, quaint bed and breakfast establishments. Sag Harbor, The Hamptons, is the ultimate destination for those who want the ambiance of a small town feel with a lot of culture. Restaurants and small shops abound in Sag Harbor and it gives one the distinct impression of a historical harbor town.

Go to the end of Long Wharf and breath in the salt air – you will feel as those you stepped back in time to the early days of Sag Harbor, when it was a popular whaling port. At Long Wharf, you can see pleasure boats that often dock in Sag Harbor. One wonderful adventure you can do while staying in this charming, seaport Hampton village is to take a ride on one of the boats. Although most of the boats are owned by private individuals, charter boats are available for tourists.

You won't find a better place for fresh seafood than in many of the lovely, quaint, Sag Harbor restaurants. Dine in an historic home that has been converted to an upscale restaurant for the ultimate evening out. Sag Harbor is the ideal spot for lovers on a romantic getaway.

Activities include hiking and bicycle riding to Noyac Bay, where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful sunsets I the world. In warm weather, you can swim in the Atlantic Ocean, just off of the bay. The scenery is exquisite – be certain to bring your camera as you will want to take many photos of this lovely bay.

One of your first stops in Sag Harbor should be at the Windmill Visitor's Center. The people who work in this center are very friendly and eager to answer all of your questions about the community. Here you can learn where to find the most historical houses, many of which are open for viewing, in the community. You can also get a map that will tell you where to find museums, shops and restaurants that grace this fine community.

Some of the top attractions at Sag Harbor, Hamptons, include the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum. This 1845 mansion has an historical boat collection, oil paintings, toys, documents and whaling artifacts. It is not only educational, but a charming building. The mansion has been renovated, but keeps with the 1845 charm and is truly something to see.

The Sag Harbor Fire Department Museum is also another popular attractions you will find in Sag Harbor, The Hamptons. The Fire District, created in 1803 is the oldest volunteer fire department in New York State.

Looking for culture? You will find plenty in Sag Harbor, The Hamptons. The Bay Street Theater on Long Wharf features regular, live-stage performances which have gone on to be successful Off Broadway theater runs. In addition to life theater performances at The Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, The Hamptons, you can experience concerts, cabarets and even lectures. One nice thing about Bay Street Theater is their extensive children events.

Visit the waterfront on the Wharf to hear free concerts from the Sag Harbor Community Band. The concerts are featured during the summer months, from July to Labor Day. People often crowd to the waterfront to enjoy the beautiful music that ranges from Strauss to Sousa.

History buffs will enjoy taking a walking tour of the Historical Main Street. See the early colonial homes that were once owned by whaling captains and industrialists.

Sag Harbor used to be called the un-Hamptons. But in recent years, it has become one of the most popular villages to visit in the Hamptons. For an opportunity to enjoy nature, beautiful scenery, charming shops and boundless culture, visit Sag Harbor, The Hamptons.
